10 hour classes - I protest!

Classes will commence on June 10, Tuesday. It's supposed to be on Monday but GMA made Monday a holiday in view of the Philippines' Independence day (originally June 12). She continuously messes up the holidays to allow the people to enjoy a longer weekend. Sweet. Anyway, my work schedule is not affected by the Philippine holidays at all. I follow another country's schedule of holidays where double pay on holidays doesn't exist. That's life.

Going back to the much-awaited opening of classes, I am very pissed off with the kids' new schedule of classes this school year. The class periods are further stretched to late afternoon. To cut the story short, my boys will be in school from 6:40am to 4:20pm on Monday to Thursday and 6:40am to 2:30pm on Fridays. In the past, classes ended at 2:30pm. With this new schedule, I am not sure if my kids along with the other kids enrolled in that school, would be able to cope up with the long hours. We are talking about children aged 10-12 years old. Their schedule in school is likened to my work schedule. 10 hours!

I don't have the slightest idea what the school is up to. They should've informed the parents beforehand of these inconsiderate changes. This would allow the parents ample time to think about the "new program" they've thought of implementing. Given this outrageous schedule, I should've considered transferring my kids to another school. But it's too late now. I've already paid the tuition fees!

On top of the extended hours in school, my kids have Kumon twice a week. They are enrolled throughout summer and it helped them a lot with their Math skills. N suggested that they quit Kumon because of the new schedule in school. The kids can't quit now. What I did was to adjust their Kumon classes to one weekday and one weekend so that they wouldn't be burdened with too much homework.

I'll definitely talk to the PTA people about this and if efforts come to naught, I'll write a letter to the principal. Darn school!
