I let my Insurance Institute membership lapsed in 2006. My employer used to shoulder the membership renewal expenses. Since I left the company, my only recourse was to renew it myself, out of my own pocket, or have the new boss foot the bill. However, my insurance certification is not a big deal to the new boss. And besides, it's mainly for insurance professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.
Every year, I get an email from the institute offering me to reinstate my membership. Renewal is around A$130. And since I had mine lapsed, I have to pay an additional $175, which sums up to A$305. Translate that to Peso, that's roughly Php12,000. Hmmm, I think I'll pass again this year.

I agree with the approach you're taking. I don't see the point of renewing a license that does not hold any significance to your current employer and job.
exactly. it was tempting. but i realized that i don't need it. just a waste of money.
