Whenever visit my favorite Chinese agents in Binondo, I make sure that I drop by Eng Bee Tin in Quintin Paredes. I love their Hopia Ube. In 2005, if I'm not mistaken, it cost around Php35 per pack. My co-workers would even list down their "orders" whenever I have client calls in Chinatown.
There's another Eng Bee Tin store near the church but the one in Quintin Paredes is the most convenient for me because of its proximity to my clients. Besides, it's also near Ocean Dragon, a fine dining Chinese restaurant, where I usually take out clients for lunch meetings.
Also, it was in Binondo where I tasted my first Zagu and Quickly drink.
Another favorite is the kuchai in Polland store (Polland sells hopia, too).
Over the weekend, I saw this Ube-Langka Combi brazenly displayed at the entrance of the supermarket. There were lots of it in the Bread and Pastry section. I even saw a Mocca-Cappuccino variant. I bought the Ube-Langka and the Ube-Queso. It's Php52 each pack. Expensive for a hopia, methinks.
The verdict: I still prefer the good ol' plain hopia ube.

I still prefer the plain hopia too. The classic. :D
They've gone fancy with the hopia flavors but do some flavors taste weird? I would think so.
Ocean Dragon... hmmm..... :D
panaderos - the classic? white mung or red mung? the flaky hopia or the hopiang hapon?
there's a pineapple hopia, too.
you want ocean dragon?
Yes, I want to try Ocean Dragon. :). I like the flaky hopia regardless of the color of the mung. :)
OMG! ocean dragon is still there? that's the place i've had the best pancit canton ever...
until i learned how to cook it, that is.
I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what is a kuchai? See, I sometimes get my hopia from Polland and somehow have managed to completely ignore its existence until now.
panaderos - fine. we'll go to chinatown. :)
cbs - it's still there. i believet hey changed the name of the resto to president something. not sure if the food tastes as great when it was called ocean dragon. pancit, beef dishes, coup, dimsum, etc.. i love them all!
cyborg - kuchai is a baked chinese pastry with ground meat and veggie filling. it's chinese empanada in a different shape. try it! masarap sya. medyo oily nga lang. pero masarap.
wow, ang bagong pangalan ng resto ay president something, and they serve a dish called coup. sounds interesting.
Hey, I know that! and yes, I love their hopia
tito rolly - o di ba masarap?
Eng Bee Tin hopia is one of the best! I still crave them up to now. Lucky we have some of them floating around in Pinoy stores here :)
and I could never get past hopia monggo... it's the only variety I like to this day :)
Me naman, I prefer hopia "sibuyas". If ever I strayed in Binondo, I always go to this restaurant where their "mami" is really super. I forgot the name, but I still know where it is.
bw - pinoy stores are heaven sent most especially when you have pinoy food cravings!
jet - with munggo, there's red and white. this flavor still tops my list, after hopia ube that is. :)
blogusvox - i think i know what's hopia sibuyas. this is the baboy variant, right?
I refer hopia mongo, my all-time favorite! But ube tastes good too, placing second on my list. What I don't like is the hopia baboy. Yuck!
BTW, when we were living in HK, we would bring boxes of Eng Bee Tin hopia as pasalubong to our friends there. Mas masarap kasi hopia dito eh.
Mari, Merong baboy merong wala. Of course I prefer merong baboy; mas malasa. But here we do without it nalang. : (
