It backfired in such a way that my kids ended up having poor study habits. The business trips became guilt trips. It was a vicious cycle that seemed inevitable but after thoughtful consideration, not irreparable.
I put one kid in an after school remedial class. However, in hindsight, that remedial class was all but a temporary solution.
Early this year, summer months specifically, I enrolled the kids in a Math skills program. It took quite a bit of an adjustment for the boys because they are required to do the program's worksheets everyday. And that's on top of the regular schoolwork.
After six months, I've seen improvements in their study habits. It also improved the kids' self-confidence. The shyness is almost history and they participated more in school-related activities.
Inasmuch as I want to do the tutoring myself, I think my body wouldn't cooperate as much. I need to sleep to be able to work. I need to work to be able to provide for my family's needs. It's working and living on two different time zones that give rise to the conflicting schedules. Conflict as it is, I was able to work around the problem and was able to find a solution to help out my kids.
To be able to make the work-life balance work for working moms, I believe outsourcing some of the mommy tasks is key.
