Lately, I noticed that the number of people asking for donations inside buses and jeepneys are increasing. The stretch of Gil Puyat is a favorite.
They introduce themselves as a representative of this and that organization and after reciting their "script", appeal to the kind hearts of the passengers for donations. They would make their rounds from one passenger to another. And once they're finished, they cap it off with a song.
I don't give a single cent to these people. If I want to make a donation to a cause which I fervently believe in, I feel it is better to send my donation directly to the organization itself. How can I be sure that the people who make their rounds inside the buses or jeepneys are not part of a syndicate?

Same here, I gave directly to our favorite charity. This racket is just another form of mendicancy.
HI MARI. GOOD TO HOP HERE FROM KUYA RUDS D SINGLE DUDE..
I USED TO SUPPORT THIS GROUP W/ MY HARD-EARNED CASH...
BUT I BELIEVE, SOMETHING THATS ILLEGAL MUST NOT BE GIVEN KIND ATTENTION..
REGARDS,
You're right in that you're better off just giving money straight to your fave charity. But it also begs the question as to how much of the money you donated eventually end up for the benefit of the poor. It has been reported that a lot of charities spend a significant portion of people's donations on administrative expenses and less than half are left for the actual beneficiaries. I just hope that these charitable institutions or offices exercise utmost prudence with the money they've been given to support their objectives.
count me in. This is just plain rip off :(
I, too, don't give to these people. In fact, I snub them. Raket lang yan eh.
blogusvox - it is! at times, i see kids doing this. the horror!
josh - good thing you don't "donate" tp these groups anymore. thank you for visiting.
panaderos - as to where the donation goes to is yet another problem in the equation. never ends, 'no?
bw - it is. dami dito.
monaco - some even have the gall to wake up the sleeping passengers just to ask for donation. over!
I simply ignore them and give to organized charities instead.
stopped a long time ago..
just last month while i was eating at Jollibee, a man dressed decently with a back pack sat beside me and started handing over envelopes with this line: "Share your blessings, ma'am, sir!" at nangunsensiya pa. when i asked what it is for, he answered me with the same line. i got annoyed and told him i don't give to such causes. he abruptly stood and transferred to another table. kapalmuks!
