I plan to go back to school this year. Again. The job market is not doing well due to global recession and getting another skill, a skill insulated from the recession, in my opinion, would give me more career options. Better career options, hopefully.
I already have three schools in mind. Also, I did some research online. I even called one school last month but unfortunately, the registrar's phone line just kept on ringing. Their website was not helpful either.
Moving on to the next, I emailed the Dean of the College of Business Administration to inquire about second degrees. Here's the response I got:
Hi Mari, the CBA does not allow accounting to be taken as a second degree. Non-degree students may however enroll up to 18 units of accounting courses subject to compliance with prerequisite requirements and slots availability. Kind regards.
I earned my post-grad degree from the same university but that wasn't given any merit nor consideration at all. I'm left with no choice but to check out other schools outside my list. Recommendations are much appreciated.

I don't know what the big deal is as to why certain universities disallow second degrees. I don't know if it's a resource problem on their part, that is, that they'd rather allocate all available slots to students who are pursuing their first degree.
Unfortunately, no school currently comes to my little mind. I am hoping that your other readers would be able to provide you with leads. Good luck.
Widge,
I think it's an internal procedure. Accounting is a quota course and they would give priority to those who took the college entrance exams. Oh well, there should be a school out there somewhere who is willing to take me in. Just have to keep looking.
I also plan the same thing...i thought of taking Psychology as a second course..don't know if i can but i hope.
good luck Mari!:)
Interesting that they aren't allowed to do that. It's the first time I'm hearing this kind of rule.
Well, there's no shortage of schools to take up your accounting degree for sure so I guess you'd better start looking. Goood luck :)
Nyl - good luck to you, too. Have you found a school yet?
bwzone - It's U.P.'s rule. I don't know what is up with that procedure of theirs.
Mari
Are you sure you want accounting as a second degree? What I mean is, are you eyeing an accounting job?
I may be wrong but you look more like a marketing talent to me.
But if you are sure about what you want, I wish you well.
bayi,
i'm considering it. for now, i haven't found a school yet. and more importantly, i have to find ways to fit it in my schedule.
