If you're one of those unfortunate people who didn't receive any "stimulus" package (read: salary increase) this year, be thankful, stop whining and carry on with your work. You're still employed, that's the most important thing now. Plus, if you look at the brighter side of things, I think no stimulus package is better than pay cuts and furloughs.
Tough times or not, it's advisable to be frugal and at the same time, come up with ideas to bump up your income. Inflation knows no recession so keep beefing up your savings and spend only on the needs.
The job market may look bleak this year especially if you're in the hard-hit sector of manufacturing, banking and construction but that doesn't mean the world is over. You can either try working in a different industry or try setting up your own business. I know it's easier said than done especially if you have financial obligations and mounting debts to deal with. However, facing the issues is lot better than running away from the problems.
Your choice.

True, I sometime encounter people who complains about how they don't have overtime anymore or bonuses for a job well done. All I said was "mabuti nga may trabaho ka pa".
Now is the worst time to whine and complain about a job. There's always a degree of unhappiness in every job but one has to look at and appreciate the bigger picture. Times are tough all over.
Incidentally, I posted something similar to this early this year here.
Some people could not simply help it but complain,a s if the world owes them.
The recession, is here and it's real. How we are greatly affected and how we cope are entirely our responsibility. Certainly, whining and complaining will not do any good.
Just recently, I lost more than half of my clients, and I am faced with less than half my regular revenue come March as a consequence. I have all the reasons to blame my clients for not notifying me earlier. I chose not to. Because I knew that there are other means where I can compensate for my loss.
These are crunch times, but those who are resillient and resourceful will surely survive.
my 2 cents.
In this tough recession, a salary increase is a luxury. I am aghast with the tought of people going on strike in a recession because they couldn't get the increase hikes the want. Sometimes I wish for the company to bloody close shop or file for bankcruptcy to hear what these greedy people have to say :(
Blogusvox,
Couldn't agree more. MAs mabuti na yung may work kesa wala. Madaming nalaly-off ngayon at walang pinipili, mapa-white collar or blue collar.
30s late,
No work is perfect. There's always an iota of frustration in every job. It always boils down on how we see things, good or bad
ronnie,
Thanks for your inputs. Everyone feels the crunch. On my part, some my clients are opting to outsource most of the work to Asia because of costs.
I hope things will get better.
bw,
Some people don't fully understand the situation. Almost everyone I know who still have jobs are thankful they're still employed.
