The entertainment package

Non-cash benefits come in different forms. It could be stock options, clothing allowance, mobile phone and notebooks, food subsidy and entertainment. As part of the entertainment fringe benefits, I'm adding concert tickets to the list. Journey was in Manila recently. And yes, I got tickets to watch the show courtesy of the boss.

The venue was at the Mall Of Asia Concert Hall. The concert was just for one day and that was yesterday, the 14th. I had work until 8:00 am on the day of the concert and I was bit groggy from lack of sleep but still managed to pay full attention to the show.

It was a night of great music. I lost count as to how many songs they sang but fortunately all of my Journey favorites were included in the repertoire: After All These Years, Wheel in the Sky, Open Arms and Faithfully. Arnel Pineda was moving around so much on the stage. Obviously, he was teeming with energy last night. Other band members such as Neal Schon has not lost his magic touch with the guitars. He was awesome. They all are.

The show ended at around past 11 p.m. We had a great time. My co-worker who was not familiar with any of Journey's songs find it entertaining as well. After Manila, Journey is headed off to Macau for their next concert tour.

I hope to see more of the entertainment type of fringe benefits in the future. While it's true that cash is still preferred when it comes to benefits, entertainment is certainly a refreshing respite.

A free Journey ticket? What a deal. I guess it's one of the perks of the job. Just like joining the navy made me see the world for free.
I have not seen Journey in concert yet but maybe this year in Las Vegas is a strong possibility. I bought their Revelation cd on the very first day though. But to see Arnel in live concert i'm sure will be a blast.

Mel,

I also have the Revelation CD! My boss is a huge fan of Journey. He talks about them a lot.

Arnel was jumping all around. He was bursting with energy that night. We're proud of him to be part of Journey.

All of the 2008 stateside concert of Journey in heavily pinoy populated areas like san diego where i live was a sell out. This year I have my doubts if it will sell out because of the recession. There's more economic priorities in life nowadays than attending a live concert.

The Manila concert was well-attended but the venue was not jam packed at all. There were a lot of empty seats in the section in front of us. I also heard people saying that the ticket was a tad expensive.

Mari,

Someone in Arnel's forum said that attendance was 70 to 80k although watching it in YouTube, that estimate was too generous I think. What's your idea?

Awesome ! That was a real dandy concert - free at that :) Journey visited our city but I was on vacation the time they came. Darn.

Anonymous/Mel,

The Philippine Daily Inquirer estimated the crowd size to be at 25,000. No way that the said concert venue would be able to accomodate the numbers you mentioned.

Mel, there's your answer.

BW, yeah it was cool. The music was great. The weather was perfect, too.

I just found out that all 3 of their shows in Honolulu are sold out. Originally, only 1 show was planned but 2 shows were added due to overwhelming public demand.
