My UMPC turned a year older

This month, my netbook aka ultra-mobile PC is now a year older. I thought the mini-laptop wouldn’t last a year but it proved me wrong. After 12 months of surfing and downloading tons of applications, it is still up and running, all keypads are intact and has never been infected by any virus. My kids even use it for online gaming.

It is practically “on” for most part of the day especially now that the kids are on summer vacation. I am waiting for it to die on me but to date, it’s working really well. I guess it doesn’t want to be replaced just yet.

I bought my UMPC for Php18,000 and I must say that it has earned its keep. I have done a lot of work with it i.e. paperwork for clients, so I can say that this nifty piece of electronic gadget is worth it. The only downside is that it has no provision for DVD/CD which doesn’t bother me a bit. I survived without it for a year. Besides, thumb drives are better.

Battery life does not last longer than an hour -- another downside. I didn’t buy a spare battery because I don’t normally bring the netbook outside the house. But now, I might take it with me while on vacation.

The screen is 7 inches. Now, if you have poor eyesight like me, either you increase the font size or position yourself real close to the monitor. It’s not really an issue but sometimes I wish the monitor is a lot bigger.

Budget-wise, the price is reasonable. The netbook is great for doing routine writing tasks and web surfing. It’s also lightweight and wouldn’t give you much trouble when you pass security check at the airport.

Time flies. I can't believe that it's been a year since you got it. I remember that I was driving down a freeway when you told me that you bought a new laptop. :) Congrats.
