For the kids, summer means more play time and yet another summer activity courtesy of mom. I'm giving the boys a break from Kumon. This summer vacation, their school is offering music and swimming lessons at a discounted price. The list of activities include piano lessons, guitar lessons and swimming. So I let them choose between guitar and swimming. The black guitar is their answer. I have yet to buy another guitar for my youngest son. We'll get the blue version of the guitar in the photo.
What I love about this guitar is its sleek and elegant look. Plus, the sound quality was akin to an electric guitar, according to my boyfriend. The kids are enjoying this new toy. And that applies to me, too. It's also one way to divert their attention to other activities aside from computer games and other electronic gadgets.
In the same fashion, I also want to learn how to play the guitar. I even bought a beginner's manual to teach myself how to decode the notes in the chord books. It's quite a challenge because I wasn't fond of music as a subject when I was younger. All the whole notes, quarter notes, etc were all Greek to me. I have to give myself time, I suppose.

You ought to try "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". :D
Seriously, there's joy in a family when there's music. Best of luck!
Who sang it?
nice decision. swimming is something your children can learn in one of your beach outings. i learned swimming from my cousin. guitar playing, on the other hand, is a lot better learned if you have a formal lesson.
All one really needs is learning the guitar chords and you can buy song books or check the net for the songs. Nowadays it's awesome - lots of internet resources. I also learned the equivalent piano chords and was able to play the organ/piano instead of the guitar background :)
paul - I think so, too. I'm glad my kids agreed on my suggestion.
bw - Lots of info indeed. My problem, more of a challenge, is reading the notes. I'd let the kids guide me when they learn the basic.
